He has been with CCUSD since 2007. He enjoys helping students with the keys to mastering English. The best part of his job he says is "meeting great people from all around the world!"

He enjoys all types of food and likes to talk about dishes from other countries. He also loves music and is frequently heard playing music to students during the last 5 minutes of class. He says that "one of the best ways to learn a new language is through the lyrics to music." He encourages all English learners to study the lyrics of the songs that they already know!

Recipe Winner

Here is the winning recipe voted by the class! We had a lot of great recipes, but in the end this lemon cheesecake from Alex Flores, ESL 2, won first place!

LEMON CHEESE CAKE

CRUST
300 g ground cookie.
145 g melted butter.
Pinch of salt.
Melted butter then put the ground cookie and the pinch of salt in a container, and later mix all crust, then add pastry mold.

LEMON FILLING
600 g cream cheese.
800 g condensed milk.
140 g lemon juice.
1 grated lemon.
In the blender put the cream cheese, mix for 1 minute, later put the lemon juice, the condensed milk and grated lemon and mix until smooth and creamy. Then add the cream in the pastry mold and finished. Put in the refrigerator for 4 hours.

STRAWBERRY SAUCE
Wash the strawberry and then cut, later put the sugar and lemon juice, let rest for 2 hours. So, when 2 hours have passed, put slow fire for 10 minutes, when the strawberries are soft, take out. The juice that remains in the container, must reduced for 10 minutes more, later put together with strawberry, and then put to cool and enjoy!

Paragraphs on Coronavirus

Our students have been writing beautiful paragraphs based on our crisis.

Here are two examples of hope and courage!

from Raimunda Ochoa / ESL 2

Theme: "Present Continuous"

We are watching the news about the Coronas Virus. My husband and I are staying home all the time. I am washing my hands often. I am using alcohol gel. I am cleaning and disinfecting things in my house. Faucets, locks, computer keyboard and cell phones. We are getting away from other people at least 6 feet. I am taking care of myself and following all the protection rules. We are praying that everything will return to normal soon.

Theme: "After the Virus"

After the virus is finished, I will smile at life. I want to go out with my family to live together again. My son wants to play at the Santa Monica pier. My daughter wants to go out to eat pizza with her cousins. I am going to have a few drinks with my friends. They are going to dance at night. My wife says I want to go dancing, too. In the summer I will camp with my family. I am going to swim in the river and they are going to watch me. I am going to have a big party to celebrate.
