Mr. Wheeler is an adult school instructor at Culver City Adult School. He previously taught mathematics and English as a Second Language for ten years at Los Angeles High School. He has been with CCUSD since 2007. He enjoys helping students with the keys to mastering English. The best part of his job he says is "meeting great people from all around the world!"
He enjoys all types of food and likes to talk about dishes from other countries. He also loves music and is frequently heard playing music to students during the last 5 minutes of class. He says that "one of the best ways to learn a new language is through the lyrics to music." He encourages all English learners to study the lyrics of the songs that they already know!
Our students have been writing beautiful paragraphs based on our crisis.
Here are two examples of hope and courage!

Theme: "Present Continuous"
We are watching the news about the Coronas Virus. My husband and I are staying home all the time. I am washing my hands often. I am using alcohol gel. I am cleaning and disinfecting things in my house. Faucets, locks, computer keyboard and cell phones. We are getting away from other people at least 6 feet. I am taking care of myself and following all the protection rules. We are praying that everything will return to normal soon.

from Alejandro Flores / ESL 2
Theme: "After the Virus"
After the virus is finished, I will smile at life. I want to go out with my family to live together again. My son wants to play at the Santa Monica pier. My daughter wants to go out to eat pizza with her cousins. I am going to have a few drinks with my friends. They are going to dance at night. My wife says I want to go dancing, too. In the summer I will camp with my family. I am going to swim in the river and they are going to watch me. I am going to have a big party to celebrate.
