Percentages Pt. 2

all right you guys welcome back to our Mass Bridge lesson we're doing part 2 of percentages so we left off on the slide talking about multiplying percentages so we do this we want to find a percentage of a percentage so let's look at an example of an instance where we might want to find a percentage of another percentage here it says 67% of animals at a local animal shelter are dogs 15% of the dogs are up to date on their shots dogs are up to date on their shots make up what percentage of the total relation of the shelter so first we would have to figure out what 67% is you know of the totem once we know what that is what number that is then we can find out what 15% of that to find a wrong number in this case they just want to know percentage so they don't need the wrong number so that's slightly different but but yeah that was a great example that you can think of like you know if if 70% of students drive to school and 30% walk and you know 10% of those who walk live less than a quarter mile away from school what percentage of the total student population in our lives a quarter mile away from school so let's see whenever we want to find a percentage of a percentage of course X but again will be using our calculators so doesn't hurt to look at that exclamation but again for the sake of time accuracy on the test will be using are calculators what they do is they go from centage to decimal multiply that out and then they're going to have to go back 2 percentage at the end so this one first we going to put them in as decimals so am I calculator I'm putting Point 37 * 08 and that gives me 20 096 and then we need to move this place over two spaces to the right so that would go 15.96 there we go the first step was just review first step is to go from 37% to 0.37 in a decimal s we do the same thing for the number so I put that answer into the box before I submitted I needed to convert to percentage right to it may sound a bit confusing because I'm saying I need to convert back from death percentage but then you say oh better answer has a decimal right that's because our percentage contains a decimal this is different this is in decimal format this is a percentage or Matt put the percent just so happens to contain a decimal so that's why I move the decimal point over two spaces to the right and that puts it up between the two in the nine okay again 20% of 5 percent so am I calculator I'm typing in points 20 * 0.05 and I get this is what I get but I got over two spaces to the right to the power to do that I'll just get 1% all right so that was multiplying percentages now we're going to do the opposite of that which is finding percentages so again for that we still have to go back to that stuff converting our percentages into decimals but after that so once we get our answer then we have to convert back to our percentage all right but here we go 1% / 87% so 1% is going to be easy 4.01 / 0.87 like that equals and I get that so I'll type it in here so that means I need a remote desktop place two spaces to the right size at 12 so this is where it goes now do you want me to run to the hundredth so this is the tenth this is 100 so I'm rounding this spot so what I do is I look too number to the right if number is five or greater than the number that have highlighted will increase by one so that's highlighted number will go up to 5 again just to recap one send become 0.01 87% becomes 187 I then move my decimal point over to spaces so now what the first one and the second one and then I round so I get about one point 15% all right the same thing here if you have 99% that's going to be Point 99 / 45% of 2.45 2.2 of course we have to move our decimal points 3 to spaces to the right so that's going to be too and if I move it to spaces to write then I'm going to have to add a zero and I'll go to the right of the 00 be 200% so again percentage posing as a decimal for both of these numbers we get to point to as an answer we move the decimal place place over two spots to the right and we end up with two hundred and 20% alright I'll talk about rounding we already did that with one of the problem remedy, rounded up to 1.15% I'm also going to rounding another less so there shouldn't be anything new let's read what they have here it says 8% what percentage is a special kind of ratio of its own a percentage Compares a quantity to 100 remember the word percent means per 100 if the quantity does not equal an exact percentage round the number up or down what's the nearest digit that you want we want it'll be that they a year and they spend $15,000 of it on rent the Smith family or eighty thousand a year and they spent $16,000 on rent is harder to compare what is spent on rent between the two families because it because their incomes are different you can easily compare the percentage of income each family spend on rent again the reason it's different is different amount but they also have different amounts of income right Stone they calculate the percentage of income that they spend on rent and so says the family the Jones family earns $60,000 a year to spend $15,000 rent the Smith earns $80,000 spent $16,000 rent the Jones family spend 25% of their earnings on rent and The Smiths 20% so even though the Smiths pay $1,000 more annually in rent they're spending less of their income on it because they generate more the less of their income 1/5 of their income is spent on rent while 1/4 of the Jones family income so they're just showing us how we can get these percentages ourselves so you just take the rent and / the income of 15000 / 60000 and you'll get your answer so you're there just analyzing some of the facts about the situation right now is he the Joneses spend a large percentage of their income on rent but the Smiths spend more money on wrecked yes you have a phone that works in a couple of days I'm going to make $10 an hour and they spend any buy something that cost $5 they spent half of their hourly wage on that one purchase if someone makes $100 an hour and let's say they spent $20 on a purchase well they've only spent 1/5 of the hourly wage right so the person bought a $20 purchase spent more on that purchase but spend less of their hourly wage on it on that purchase alright sweetheart weird looking Chef here says shaft special he will hear we will look at how to do percent problems I remember the percentages divide the whole into 100 parts a percent is a part when the whole is 100 not sure what they had a Shot For That so we're just going over the steps of how to find a percent of a number so if we are being asked to find 70 percent of 213 who just converted to a decimal and then multiply that decimal times a number and we'll get her answer they do it and they get 155.49 so that number 145 149 is 73% of 213 are there any questions on this go to the next okay what is 89% of 65 so all you guys try that out turn 89% into a into a decimal then multiply by decimal * 65 let me know when you guys get I'll go ahead and do it myself what number did you guys go alright so I'll just review it to 89% first gets converted into a decimal that means we're going to get coin 89 next we take Point 89 + x * 65 so calculator and you get 57.85 alright 69% of 93 show decimal 69% is 69 as a decimal I take that number and I * * 93 I got 64.7 search to find a percentage one number is of another all these steps so you just divide the part into the whole meaning the smaller number into the larger one so just here 95 gets / 150 we got a decimal and then we convert that dust what's your percentage go to do that conversion move the decimal place over two spots to the right lawyer percentage sign on there and we have our answer so again smaller number gets / the bigger number and we have a decimal that decimal gets converted into percentage and the way we do that is move the decimal point spots over to the right and then throw your % of you okay what percent of 51 is 20 okay so that means we're going 21 divided by 51 equals this is what I get as a 0.41 and so they want me to do is 100 so the first thing I do is I place the decimal here that's where it's going to go as a percentage this is my temps place this is my hundreds I'm going to have a six-year so the round to the hundredths the spot that I'm rounding to I need to look to the right percent sign all right again take a small number divided by the big number so 34 / 86 and I get this number 0.395 three until I move the decimal place over two spots to the right so that would be right there that's my new location I can give her the old one this is my tenth this is my hundredth hundreds I look to the right of that if it's 5 or greater it goes up if it's for less than I get rid 20% of what number is an example of a question where you have to find the whole and I'll show you guys a setup that is going to make it a lot easier so before she goes the steps I'll show you a setup can figure out any of the three things here but 100 always remains on the bottom right everything is always in the same location but we always know that the bottom right is going to be filled with the number 100 this right here the part of the hole in the percentage you don't know what number it's going to be right it can change but we can always find the part the whole or the percentage using this setup so when we have the problem let's go check out back up I'll show you how we use it it's all clear for now but let's if you dissing and I'll show you guys message thanks a lot easier okay so here right in this case it's the whole what I'm going to do is I'm going to cross multiply and then divided by 77 so that goes 143 * 100 I get 14300 / 77 and they want me to round to the nearest whole number so I have this as an act right around seniors number this is 185.7 that's going to go up to 186 alright so yeah I'm setting up my portion 62 and I'm placing a next year cuz I don't know what that is right so I go 162 100 I got 16210 divide that number by 95 and I got my answer it's a 170.5 so that's going to run up to 171 next okay so what they're doing in the next for their main sizes we're going to figure out how to find you know we already figured out how to find the total connect maybe the part and then the percentage do each three of those sections of the proportion that I showed you guys are the ratios we're going to figure out how to do this one is finding the percentage of a total given a set of values to find the percentage of the total given a set of values followed by as the set of values together so for example says 2022 is what percentage of the total value of these numbers so we have four different numbers to release going to Total them up together
