Dr. Cardenas proudly received the proclamation. On September 25, 2024, the CCAS Academic Department hosted its first Literature Night at the Museum. Students and staff interacted creatively with a short story in a book club style activity, celebrating the great American writer, Kurt Vonnegut. CCAS was the first group to enjoy the beautiful new A-Frame Theater at the Glorya Kaufman Cultural Center. Teacher emcee, Danny Moynahan, invited participants to share text-to-self connections and original poetry as they reflected on the storyline. Teacher Dr. Marisol Santana and Teacher Aaron Mendelson acted out a scene from “Romeo and Juliet” that was referenced in Vonnegut’s short story. It was a memorable night for all.

On August 22, 2024, Principal Dr. Cárdenas welcomed staff to the "CCAS All-Star Village" as a tribute to the summer Olympics' meeting theme. Newest members to the Team were presented with an Olympic torch as a symbol of peace, friendship, and unity. Superintendent Dr. Lucas visited to provide a warm welcome back message. Erin Fernandez provided goodies to staff on behalf of SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union. To demonstrate being strong members of the community, staff visited the Wende Museum for a guided tour by Head of Education, Michael Balot-Garza, and also met the Museum's Founder/Executive Director, Justin Jampol. The day ended with teachers engaging in department meetings to plan engaging instruction for students' return on Monday.

We want to thank the staff at the Wende Museum for hosting our first ever “Night at the Museum” summer send off. We viewed the historical archive of art and culture reflecting on the Cold War era and its legacy. Guests also participated in a scavenger hunt challenge as they viewed exhibitions.

The Summer Enrichment 4 Kids Program hosted by the Adult School is in full swing. Students are learning to create clay sculptures, make jewelry, and generate original superhero comic strips. Other students engage in team sports and are loving exploration of ocean zones while being introduced to seahorse mixed media art. In "Math for the Real World," students are designing and funding a dream home and planning for college. Great memories abound for students and teachers alike!
