On May 29, 2024, Superintendent Dr. Brian Lucas was at CCAS to honor teachers and support staff with special Culver Pride hats, school district pins, and a delicious cake. He thanked the staff for their dedication to teaching and learning. Kelly, our Business Secretary received a pin for 15 years of service, and Tasha, our School Secretary received a pin for 20 years of service in the district. A special gift was presented to Adrian, our morning Custodian, for earning the title CCAS Classified Employee of the Year. Teacher Danny was presented a special gift for earning CCAS Teacher of the Year. CCAS is a great place to work and thrive as we support “Opening Doors to Education, Enrichment, and Empowerment.”

On May 22, 2024, students participated in conversation mixers as part of English as a second language classes. Mixers enable students to ask and answer questions as they get to know one another better while practicing conversational English.

The faculty and staff of the Culver City Adult School cordially invite the Culver City learning community to the 2024 Graduation Ceremony. The ceremony will take place on June 13, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at the Robert Frost Auditorium. No need to RSVP or obtain tickets. All are welcome to attend this public celebration. We hope to see many of our ASE, ABE, and ESL students in attendance to see their peers graduate and enjoy musical renditions from our staff/student band.

On May 15, 2024, CCAS Counselor Eunice Vines presented highlights of the work completed by the Marketing Collaboration and Strategies Action Planning Team to the Los Angeles Regional Adult Education Consortium Board. Their collective work included creating flyers and gathering testimonials to broaden adult education outreach to special populations. On May 15, 2024, students in the morning ESL 5/6 class with Teacher Roseanney Liu enjoyed a short presentation by Mr. Mike Odunze of Culver City’s Volunteer Programs. Students learned about the benefits of community resources and city programs including: Daily free programs, dances, and other social events for seniors and disabled community members. Volunteers are also counted on for their service at the highly anticipated and largely attended annual La Ballona Festival. During students’ Q&A, Mr. Odunze emphasized, “Regardless of your skills and backgrounds, we can find a volunteer opportunity that fits you.”

On May 9th and 10, 2024, the CCAS Academic Department Teachers and Counselor Eunice Vines participated in two full days of professional development to become certified in new roles to support the National External Diploma Program (NEDP). The NEDP is a competency and performance-based system in which clients demonstrate abilities in a series of simulations that parallel life and job situations and earn a Culver City Unified School District diploma. On May 9, 2024, Superintendent Dr. Lucas provided the State of the District address at the Robert Frost Auditorium. In attendance were district staff, community members, and partners of the District. He identified draft priorities of the CCUSD Board of Education, inclusive of: academics, pedagogical districtwide models, social-emotional actions, as well as ways employees, the community, and the organization will thrive. CCAS Teachers Bradley Wheeler and Aaron Mendelson were highlighted for their Los Angeles Regional Adult Education Consortium’s Innovative Teaching Regional Awards as part of “Leading the Way” in our district.

On March 19, 2024, Culver City Council Member Freddy Puza visited students in p.m. classes to say hello and share the function of city government. He also provided an update on key projects Culver City is undertaking in support of community members to make living in the city enjoyable and safe. Some students used Apps on their phones to translate concepts into their native language to increase understanding.

On March 18, 2024, students in English as a Second Language classes participated in a “social mixer” activity that brought together students from levels 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Students learned about classmates by interviewing one another on scripted questions like: What’s your favorite American TV show? What is it about? And If I travel to another country, which places do you recommend I visit or see?
